It wasn t amazing but it also wasn t horrible, it kind of just was At first Isa and Puo seemed like they would be really great engaging characters i especially loved that Puo is gay asexual but by the end I didn t really end up attached to either of them The heist plot was pretty solid but again, nothing really amazing I m glad I got it on instafreebie basically. Also I didn t like how Isa seems like the kind of woman who automatically doesn t like other women she seemed to have something mean to [...]

The heist story part of this book was fast paced and fun, and really kept me guessing even after I thought I d had it figured out I also really enjoyed the character of Puo, the protagonist s best friend and tech buddy. However, the protagonist herself and her love interest were both so irritating that if the heist plot hadn t been so interesting I would have dropped this book about halfway through Isa is self absorbed and awful to nearly everyone around her especially other women and for someone [...]

I was pretty excited when I won this in a GR giveaway For some reason, I love the thought of diving never mind the fact I can t swim, and watching diver s go into underwater caves on tv freaks me out, it s the whole thought of another world under the sea that I will never get to see except at the aquarium that I think is so cool It s also a great backdrop for my other favorite thing, which is, heist stories The book had a great opening with our mc and her team, pulling a job in an underwater par [...]

Almost 100 years ago, a major natural disaster even reshaped the Earth s coastlines Goodbye entire cities, states and countries And when authorities outlaw salvaging from the lost cities, a whole new breed of criminal turned up Isa and her crew are under water reclamation specialists Aka, scavengers The just did a major heist in the Seatle Isles that might just put them on easy street, if they can even figure out what it is they stole A question, they soon learn, where their very lives hang in t [...]

A group of thieves are hired to figure out who stole something which they happen to steal Should be interesting, right This book was a definite mismatch I should have payed attention to the sunken city part because the first 2 chapters involved scuba diving and for someone who hates water, it was excruciating There was also a lot of talk about Cleaners and their squeegees which, I think, were they people who would find a way to erase thieves from video surveillance, but I couldn t say for sure [...]

Con men deluxeIsa, Puo, and Winn are high tech conmen, recently moved to the Seattle Isles from the East Coast after a failed job The opening scene finds Isa and Winn diving in the underwater remains of the flooded city on a job to raise needed funds to pay costs for setting up their business in the new city Interesting plot and characters.

For the first in a series, I expected a bit world building, but for a kindle freebie, it was good.

    9. Jo on said:

Great world building, but Isa isn t a very likable character, and she treats Winn carelessly through the whole book No clear ending.

I had originally tagged this as YA, but I m reclassifying it as adult The characters aren t teens, after all Instead, they are adults.ough on the young side New adults, perhaps Whatever I know what I mean And this is a good book Engaging So much so, in fact, that when I accidentally left my copy at work, I had to buy the ebook so I could finish it And then I bought the second one Yep It was good.

I had high hopes for this book when I entered the giveaway for it, and even higher hopes when I learned I d won a copy The story and originality didn t disappoint, but at times the execution needed work.As it concerns the actual plot and characters, I enjoyed this book It had a fast paced narrative and I could relate to the characters at different levels There were a few times I felt the author intrude, become expository, but I admittedly have to commend the attempt The only shortcoming was cons [...]

This is a fast moving, exciting sci fi caper story It s set in a future world where much of what we know is now underwater, and our heroes make their living from illegally recovering sunken artifacts However, they find themselves on the wrong side of not only the law, but of local crime bosses, and now they have to figure out a way to extricate themselves from a very precarious position The plot moves fast, and it s laced with dry humor throughout It s a well thought out world, with just enough [...]

I received Solid State Shuffle as a free copy from the author The gifting did not determine the review rating, which reflects my honest opinion This novel was a delightful surprise Some of the underwater opening chapter made me hesitate, as there was a lot of detail and I worried I d be bogged down in minutia with out character development obviously, there s a fan base for this as other writers are noted for their verbosity and have a huge following I m happy to report, this writer found an exce [...]

Read the whole review at spinesinaline.wordpressI received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is the continuation of a short story I read earlier this year Underwater Restorations Now we re back with Isa, Puo, and Winn after their misadventures in the last story have led them to a new city Enough background info is provided that you don t need to read the first story but it is helpful if you do.For me, I never really connected with any of the characters so that s why this [...]

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest reviewI m a big fan of speculative fiction, crime novels, and mystery stories and this book wrapped them all up in one very interesting story The world of Isa and Puo, two legacies, criminals since birth and a long time pair, and Winn, born a laci law abiding citizen but now a member of the same criminal underground, was a unique setting A near future world where the coasts are underwater and where not all criminals are the bad guys sucked [...]

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review And I loved it The book is an urban fantasy set 100 years after a major terrestrial event reshaped all the worlds coastlines Many of the worlds cities are now under water and salvaging from them is illegal Isa and her team, Winn and Pou, have recently moved to what use to be Seattle to start up their underwater reclamation service They pull off a heist that they think will let them take it easy for a while but get way than they bargained for. Once again the gang is back, although its a new town and new set up They haven t changed any of their ways so of course it fun and mayhem and a little bit of heart strings Mr Ballard does a wonderful job keeping the action fast paced and humming with energy The trio is still off the chain even with the strain But things are shifting and there are a lot of things going on behind the scene which is pulled together and tied with a bow at the end Great story and almost a year later the first book wa [...]

This was an opposite take on a crime drama Instead of good vs bad it was bad vs badder It was refreshing to see the bad guys fighting each other and on top of that they used amazing tech things that are probably only real in someone s mind I really enjoyed the story, it was full of drama, heists, lying, spying etc I recommend this book to anyone who likes crime stories I am eager to read the next book coming out in November of this year I received this book from for free.

I found this to be a highly enjoyable heist story set in a not too distant future The pacing is superb, and I invariably found myself reading chapters than I d intended in a sitting It s clear that there s a richly imagined world behind this book the mere glimpses that are provided in this book have me eager to get to the next two just released installments in the series.

Enjoyable I really wish there had been of the underwater reclamation theft work described but the dynamics and politics between the bosses was very interesting As was the entanglement and solution by the crew I also wanted descriptions of this altered world and the underwater world There is so much potential to work with and I really wanted to visualize how the submerged cities would look A map with the new coastlines drawn would be really cool too I loved the characters of Isa Puo Winn wasn t [...]
