CHASING THE TRAVELLER is by Alex Kane otherwise known as Emma Clapperton, author of supernatural crime series with Patrick McLaughlin In Chasing the Traveller, the author has switched genre, and now has produced a well written fast paced domestic abuse thriller It is so easy to follow the author s style of writing I was totally gripped by this novel. This story follows a woman s desperation to be freed from domestic abuse, living in a trailer in a traveller community, and move on with her life Th [...]

Chasing The Traveller is very much a domestic noir story with a touch of suspense. It s weird to say you really enjoy a book especially due to the nature of the story being quite a dark one I did though I loved that the story line was to do with travellers as it gave me a bit of an insight into what life is like in that community, though I am sure it is very different to Kat and Jimmy s.Jimmy right from the off I disliked He is a bully A big manipulative one at that No wonder Kat is in constant f [...]

It s not often you come across a book that is based around the traveller community from what I know, it s quite a private community So I started this with slight apprehension, would the author pull of the authenticity of a fairground backdrop The answer to that is for me s The parts set in the traveller camp described the setting to ignite your imagination and transport you there.I really felt for Kat Stuck in a relationship, suffering daily abuse from a man who professes his love Abuse dished o [...]

An engaging read about a disturbing and emotive subject matter, Chasing the Traveller is a thought provoking thriller I finished reading it around the time I saw Sleeping with the Enemy for the first time in many years and I found the emotional response it got from me was similar to that wonderful film Jimmy is an effective villain who I disliked immensely and that made Kat s desperation to get away from him even believable and something I became fully emotionally invested with A book that I wo [...]

Alex Kane is actually the pseudonym for Emma Clapperton and because I am a fan of her other books I was looking forward to reading this new material The previous books she has written have a supernatural element to them and in all honesty that s never been my favourite subject but she does the books well enough that it s not an issue for me I was looking forward to seeing how she would fare outside of her normal stuff and what this new material would be lie What I wasn t prepared for was how ama [...]

Not a genre I d normally go to, but was offered a chance to review I believe this might also be the author s first published book for this genre The first few chapters are quite confronting, but a gripping read I felt genuine anger at what was happening to Kat, our main character All in all I read this book in under 24 hours in around 3 sessions It s a fairly short read but really well written and the tension and pace are consistent throughout and I never wanted to put it down.My only gripe woul [...]

Took every available moment to immerse myself in Kat s story Figured out fairly quickly the reason for an earlier tragic event in the tale, but this didn t detract A carefully woven story full of pain, sorrow, joy and strength I willed Kat on in her quest for the truth I love books where there is a strong female lead and this book was perfect for this Definitely worth a read.

A gripping realistic story of a domestic abuse victim and her attempts to move past this phase of horror in her life. The terror that Kat experiences at the very thought of her husband Jimmy, who knocks her around and beats her up for no reason at all, is truly chilling The fear and helplessness at not knowing what to do and how to get out of the only life she has ever known is only made worse by Jimmy s knowledge of the fact.Even when she does get out, she cannot move on as he is constantly in h [...]

full of suspense, betrayal, loss, excitement, starting again and a feeling of triumph a fantastic domestic story which faces head on the tough subjects of domestic violence, sexual violence and crime the only reason I didn t give this 5 stars was that I found sometimes the dialogue repeated itself unnecessarily despite this it was cleverly written and along with the main character i felt the suspense of looking over her shoulder look forward to from this writer

Set in Scotland and largely based within a travelling community, Chasing the Traveller is certainly an emotive read It s hard not to feel emotional about Kat and Ellie, particularly when you learn what they ve had to endure at the hands of Jimmy Alex Kane has created a character that is so unlikable and yet completely believable, sadly there are lots of Jimmy s in the world Having been to Glasgow many times it was also nice to be able to visualise the setting for part of the story and again this [...]

Great book I had to read this from start to finish with just one bathroom break It was so much than I was expecting I know very little about the Traveller community, so this gave me an unique setting The main character Kat had me cheering her along as I desperately wanted things to go right for her This was down to the great writing I would definitely recommend this for readers who enjoy a Crime Thriller involving a character the reader can care about.
